A Course to Help You Find Your Unique Path
Society has an assembly line approach to success. Our children do not fit this mold.
Each of our children is so unique with their particular combination of special needs and challenges that we really don't have an instruction manual.
We have to create our own plans, custom-designed to fit our children, their needs, and their abilities. This course is designed to help you and your child develop your vision for the future so you can build your unique path to achieve your goals.
JOIN THE CLASS
In this course, you will learn:
- How to create a vision for yourself and your future so you can live with hope again
- How to expand your definition of inclusion to open up greater, more authentic opportunities for your child
- How to empower your child so they can find in themselves the motivation and confidence to progress towards independence
- How to identify the tangible support and actions your child needs to achieve greater independence
- What guiding principles you should use to help you make decisions about what is right for your child
- How to become more confident leading your child's team, so teachers, doctors and professionals can support your child's progress towards the vision for their future.
This 7-week online course includes:
- A weekly live lesson with Melinda Jennis, founder of Pathways for Exceptional Children, where you will learn how to build and support a vision for your child's future.
- Recordings of the lessons so you can rewatch the lessons when you need additional support.
- A private Facebook group so you have a community of parents who share the goal of empowering their children to achieve more independence and confidence.
- Weekly office hours inside the Facebook group where you can ask questions and get feedback

When my son was young, I hit a turning point. I realized that my son's independence was essential to my own independence. Jake was going to need my support for the long-term, but if he never achieved his fullest potential, I was going to burn out.
I realized I needed to change the message I was sending to Jake. I needed to shift and raise my expectations for him. I needed to empower him to work every day towards his abilities, rather than letting him be defined by his limitations.
When I shifted my perspective, Jake changed, too. It took work, and it took time. We started small. But slowly Jake began to accomplish his goals. As he progressed, he gained the confidence and motivation to become even more independent.
Jake will always need care, but by empowering Jake to achieve what he was capable of achieving, we both have gained freedom, independence and fulfillment.

About Your Teacher
Melinda Jennis, Founder
Pathways for Exceptional Children
Melinda founded Pathways and has led the organization as President and Board Member since its inception. She has served on the New Jersey educational and employment committees and has been a life long advocate of children of all abilities. She is both an author and powerful public speaker. She has a B.A. in communication disorders and speech science and is a licensed physical therapist. She is an avid photographer and is passionate about working with children in impoverished countries. Her favorite role is being mom to her children, Jacob and Stephanie and working in the trenches with the children of all abilities.
